Communications Manager (Editorial)
Community & Outreach
We are looking for a talented Editorial Manager who can join the Community & Outreach team and can own, edit and manage WELL Labs’ diverse publications.
Responsibilities
- Enforce editorial workflows and maintain a publications tracker for all institutional outputs, including blogs, media articles, newsletters, annual reports, project reports and research briefs.
- Work closely with researchers and practitioners to write and edit a range of outputs – from reports and journal articles to public-facing pieces such as op-eds, reported features, data stories and photo essays.
- Ghostwrite pieces drawing from raw data or based on discussions with researchers and interviews with external partners
- Carry out substantive edits and detail feedback to help the writer structure their pieces to convey their insights clearly
- Copy-edit and proofread to ensure that all publications are error-free
- Organise regular writing sessions to ensure completion of written knowledge products
- Anchor the production of large reports from outline to final print and dissemination.
- Work with designers to conceptualise, plan and implement infographics and visualisations to promote key pieces of research. Prepare graphics and report layouts using tools such as Canva, MS Excel, Slides, Flourish and Datawrapper.
- Curate and sharpen institution-wide and initiative-specific narratives, and accordingly develop strategic communication plans to deliver impactful messages to key stakeholders.
- Build and maintain a comprehensive media contact database.
- Engage with editors and reporters of prominent publications to publicise work done by WELL Labs and partners, publish thought leadership pieces in prominent publications and inform media coverage on relevant news developments.
- Create training materials, conduct writing workshops for researchers as well as staff at other non-profits and civil society organisations. Prepare, update and maintain templates and writing guides.
- Manage interns and content specialists, and carry out regular performance reviews and goal setting exercises.
- Support team members with building media relationships and implementing projects.
- Support the community manager with newsletter curation and publication.
- Support the communications team with video scripting and ideation, podcasts, social media outreach, and any other work
Skills and Experience
- Candidates with 6-10 years of experience in communications, journalism, editorial, or public relations
- Have experience working with knowledge-based organisations such as research institutes, think tanks, philanthropies, funders, technical consultancies or NGOs
- Have domain knowledge or exposure to environment, climate change, water or related fields
- Strong English language and Editorial skills
- Experience of pitching pieces to the media, identifying topical stories, and liaising with journalists would be a bonus
Location: Delhi or Bengaluru (Hybrid work environment)
