Urban Water
WELL Labs seeks skilled and motivated research personnel to join the Sustainable Transition Explorations in Water and Agriculture for Resilient Dryland Systems (STEWARDS) project.
Project Overview
This is a consultant role for 6 months to 9 months and post that as per ongoing projects requirements, the base location can be changed to Bangalore. We function in a Hybrid work mode. It shall be useful to come to the Bangalore office as and when required as well when not stationed in Chintamani.
The project addresses the critical need to identify equitable, sustainable and climate-resilient development pathways in tropical drylands. Alongside research being undertaken in the Sahel (Niger/Nigeria) and central Tanzania, STEWARDS is establishing ‘Transformational Labs’ (T-Labs) – collaborative spaces where people take an active role in co-developing sustainable, equitable pathways – in peninsular India.
Job Location: Associate will be stationed in Chintamani Taluk, Chikkaballapur district as we start this engagement.

Responsibilities and Expectations
- Key Deliverables: support the Urban Waters Initiative, the Transformation Lab by conducting interviews, surveys, and focus group discussions, facilitating audiovisual data recording (including videos), and community hydrologist training.
- Engagement and Outreach: support in establishing and managing respectful and functional contacts/ relations with all stakeholders involved in the landscape and the project. Proactively engage with local administration and other partners working in the landscape.
- Active Collaboration: work in sync with the team at WELLs office via meeting and regular connects, both in person and online. Preparing draft report(s), taking inputs from all relevant team members. Supporting quick or detailed literature search, on various themes or topics relevant to the overall project as required.

Qualifications, Experience and Eligibility
- Full proficiency in Kannada is a must. Knowledge of Telugu is an added advantage.
- Experience of working in Chintamani, Chikkaballapur is an advantage.
- Master’s degree in a relevant stream like social, environmental, natural sciences, water, agriculture, development, economics, rural and urban studies.
- 1-4 years of relevant experience is good to have and a desire to work with the community and in rural areas.
- Exposure to qualitative data collection is desirable.
- Hands-on experience on computers and other technological aids, including data search, analysis and management software and applications.
- Willing to learn new engagement and research methods, technologies, softwares etc.
