Research Associate – Cost-Benefit Analysis

WELL Labs is seeking a Research Associate to contribute to the work on developing a Cost–Benefit Analysis (CBA) framework for Treated Used Water (TUW) reuse from Centralised Sewage Treatment Plants (C-STPs) in Indian cities.

Responsibilities
- Support in conducting a structured literature review of CBA frameworks, methodologies, and empirical studies for treated wastewater reuse, covering international experiences and Indian case studies.
- Support in developing a research methodology for data collection, valuation, and analysis aligned with standard economic appraisal norms, including benefits transfer, market pricing, shadow pricing, and hedonic valuation approaches.
- Support in developing a comprehensive cost–benefit repository capturing positive benefits & negative costs across social, health, environmental, and economic dimensions.
- Support in conducting stakeholder mapping for Safe Reuse of Treated Water (SRTW) reuse options by identifying key beneficiary and risk-bearing groups, assessing severity and distribution of impacts.
- Support the preparation of analytical summaries, presentations, policy briefs, reports, and knowledge products for internal and external audiences.
- Support field engagement activities, consultations, interviews, and validation exercises as required for research and stakeholder engagement.
Preferred Qualifications, Experience & Skills
- Education: Postgraduate degree in Economics, Environmental Economics, Development Economics, Public Health, Environmental Studies, or Urban/Environmental Planning.
- Experience: 1–3 years; Prior understanding of CBA, cost-effectiveness analysis, or environmental valuation research is an advantage; prior experience working in the wastewater sector in India would be an advantage
- Technical Skills: Strong analytical and literature synthesis skills; Excel, including macros; working knowledge of R or Python preferred; familiarity with NPV, IRR, and sensitivity analysis
