Position Overview

Job Location: Remote with extensive travel

Locations: Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh

About the Role:  We are looking for a motivated and passionate Fellow to join our team for eight months to support the development of playbooks on sustainable livelihoods and water solutions in India, which will be added to the Green Rural Economy (GRE) knowledge discovery platform for the development sector. The Fellow will work closely with the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF), Uttar Pradesh, and the Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (AKRSP), Gujarat.

They will create playbooks, curate dissemination designs, and be responsible for sharing the best practices and solutions in the themes of natural resource management via training components linked to the GRE platform. The ultimate goal is to facilitate knowledge transfer across program coordinators and staff within the development sector and enable knowledge sharing across different geographies for greater impact.

What are playbooks?

Playbooks are a tool for engagement, first developed for the Green Rural Economy (GRE) initiative. We conceptualised them on the premise that reframing knowledge as ‘solutions’ to user needs will increase the capacity of changemakers and CSOs to problem solve. Over the last two years, we have made online and offline playbooks using various methodologies. More about playbooks can be found here.

Responsibilities

1. Knowledge Curation and Consolidation for Playbooks: Collaborate with AKF and AKSRP to collect existing knowledge resources in various formats (e.g., reports, research papers, training materials). Analyse and consolidate these documents to gather knowledge about the solution. Scope out the users, prospects, and opportunities attached to the playbooks through online and on-field workshops.
2. Creation of playbooks: Identify and bridge knowledge gaps through in-person interviews and field visits to solution sites with the organisaitons’ officials. Gather insights from experts and validate discussions through fieldwork. Connect with both solution providers and users directly impacted by the solutions. Delving deeper into personal anecdotes of users and experts helps us learn more nuances about the solution.
3. Design & Review: Work with the WELL Labs research team to create playbook structure and visualise it with the designers. Compile and structure the playbook to enhance user comprehension. Review and validate the secondary research utilised for the content created for the playbook.
4. Conduct Peer Review to validate solution: Conduct secondary research and peer review to validate our findings through peer reviews from relevant organisations and incorporate user feedback from partner organisations. Collate review from WELL Labs team, partner organisations, and TCPL and incorporate changes in the playbooks draft.
5. User Experience Research: Engage in user experience research conversations with trainers, service providers, and other stakeholders to understand their journey and future needs in knowledge documentation and management. Use insights gathered to optimise the platform’s usability and effectiveness.
6. Collaboration and Communication: Work collaboratively with AKF and AKRSP to ensure smooth knowledge transfer and data sharing. Communicate regularly with the program management and research teams at WELL Labs to provide updates, share findings, and address any challenges or roadblocks.

   Throughout the Fellowship:

7. Maintain regular communication and coordination with the partner organisations and WELL Labs to ensure smooth knowledge transfer and data sharing.

8. Provide regular updates to the central programme management team, sharing progress, insights, and challenges faced.

9. Create and maintain documentation on processes, methodologies, and insights gathered during the fellowship for future reference and scalability.

Qualifications, Experience and Eligibility

1. Master’s degree in related fields such as communications, rural development, human-centred design, or a related field.
2. 2+ years of professional experience in the development sector, especially in rural, natural resource management and agricultural contexts.
3. Professional experience in designing knowledge collateral for rural India, preferably in the non-profit sector, is a plus.
4. Demonstrated experience in resource development, knowledge management, data curation, or content organisation.
5. Strong analytical and organisational skills, with a keen eye for detail.
6. Proficiency in using digital tools and platforms for data management and organization.
7. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with diverse stakeholders effectively.
8. A proactive and self-motivated attitude with the ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
9. Experience with knowledge dissemination platforms or similar digital tools is a plus.
10. Fluency in Tamil or Telugu is highly desirable.

What to Expect at the End of the Fellowship

At the end of the fellowship, the fellow will have created:

1. Create playbooks to be added in a repository of consolidated knowledge across selected thematic areas on GRE platform.
2. Source solutions that can be consolidated directories across thematic areas & geographies.
3. Consolidate notes from user-testing.
4. Design journey maps based on user-testing insights, highlighting pain points and areas for improvement.
5. Document insights from interviews with partner organisations’ users like trainers, entrepreneurs, and service providers.
6. Documentation on processes, methodologies, and insights gathered during the fellowship for future reference and scalability.
7. Comprehensive report summarising findings from the fellowship and recommendations for further improving the knowledge discovery platform.

The Fellow will be hired by WELL Labs. Partner organisations will be AKF and AKSRP, who will leverage their local resources to facilitate all field-level engagements and introduce the fellow to the solutions. WELL Labs will review the applicants and select the candidate together. Once selected, the Fellow will report to one lead from WELL Labs to ensure that the goals, objectives and activities are clearly specified and tracked across the duration of the fellowship. Partner organisations will host the Fellow at their office and field space.
