We are seeking a Fellow who will play a pivotal role in transforming water management knowledge into accessible,’solution-focused’ playbooks for grassroots organisations.
Position Overview
The Fellow will play a pivotal role in developing playbooks for WELL Labs, under Axis Bank Foundation 2.0 Water Playbooks. Their primary objective is to transform expert water management knowledge into accessible, solution-focused playbooks for grassroots organisations.
The Fellow will be trained and capacitated by WELL Labs to document successful interventions and lead the co-creation of knowledge products. They will undergo a specialised orientation by WELL Labs in Bengaluru, covering:
- Solutions mapping
- Documentation and verification of content
- Audio & Visual content capture in the field
- Knowledge creation strategies for NGOs
Job Location: Bengaluru (Hybrid)
Type of Engagement: 12 Months (aligned with project phases, with the possibility of further extension)
Key Responsibilities
- Playbook Development & Documentation
- Develop Core Playbooks: Lead the end-to-end creation of 15 playbooks for partner organisations and WELL Labs teams based on their expertise in water for livelihoods.
- Document Solutions: Conduct field visits to capture implementation nuances, contextual factors, and adaptive strategies of water interventions.
- Field Validation: Engage in the ‘Download’ phase to gather insights from experts and validate solutions on the ground with varied users.
- Content Creation: Draft high-quality content that helps users identify, access, and communicate the best available impact solutions.
- Knowledge Creation Strategies for Partners: Collate insights from existing knowledge management practices of partner organisations and contribute towards developing standardised templates and documentation workflows.
- Facilitation & Collaboration with Partners
- Solutions mapping: Connect bio-regional solutions emerging out of the project with the GRE operational network to facilitate servicification and matchmaking wherever possible.
- Coordinate in Co-creation: Facilitate the playbook development process for ABF grantees and WELL Labs teams working across diverse landscapes (coastal, canal-irrigated, and dryland areas).
- Cross-Pollination: Act as a connector to ensure the concerned teams actively collaborate with other ABF grantees and coalitions, fostering a network of knowledge sharing.
- Manage Design Production: Supervise the work of the Science Writer/ Editor and Design Consultant to execute the visual design of playbooks, ensuring they are user-friendly (including visual elements to make it user-friendly and dissemination-friendly).
- Dissemination, Training & Embedding
- User Testing: Gather feedback on content, visual appeal, and usability from field staff and farmers to refine the toolkit.
- Integration & Adoption: Work to integrate the finished playbooks into organisations’ existing training and implementation processes. Look for external partners and avenues where adoption and usage of the playbooks can be ensured and embedded into present structures.
- Event Coordination: Support the organisation of Field Schools, GRE Clinics, and Network Melas to popularize the playbooks and recognise trainers using them.
Preferred Qualifications & Profile
- Experience in documentation in water, natural resource management (NRM), or environmental and climate with non-profit and development sector organisations in India.
- Pursuing or recently completed a degree in Development Studies, Social Sciences, Public Policy, Management, Design for Social Impact, or related fields with some kind of specialisation in water and NRM.
- Strong field action research.
- Comfortable working with spreadsheets, Airtable, Notion or similar tools
- An interest in the social/development sector and in mapping ecosystem players
- A basic understanding of user experience (UX) and content structuring is a plus
- Ability to work independently and manage timelines
- Good communication and documentation skills
- Creative, detail-oriented, and organised
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Keen on fieldwork and being part of collaborative teams
- Some familiarity with rural development projects
