Green Rural Economy

There are people and organisations doing important work across rural India but these are largely limited to isolated cases. We need to address the barriers that prevent these innovations from diffusing rapidly across geographies and contexts. This is why WELL Labs has been working on a consortium-led initiative called Green Rural Economy that helps development practitioners find the information and services they need and act upon it.

We are looking for a Founder-CEO to be the driving force behind our strategic vision, operational execution, and culture. You will lead our company, ensuring that we capitalise on opportunities, navigate challenges with innovative solutions, and consistently meet our goals. Your leadership will not only influence our internal team but also shape our relationships with partners, investors, and customers


  • Strategic Leadership: Define and execute the company’s strategic plan, ensuring alignment with short-term and long-term objectives. Lead from the front in an unstructured environment, adapting strategies as necessary to meet evolving market demands. 
  • Fundraising: Raise funds from philanthropists and foundations to establish GRE as a Section 8 company, ensuring the financial resources needed to drive the initiative forward.
  • Operational Excellence: Oversee daily operations, ensuring efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness across all aspects of the business. Drive continuous improvement initiatives and the adoption of best practices.
  • Innovation and Growth: Foster a culture of innovation that encourages problem solving and experimentation. Identify new market opportunities, spearhead product development initiatives, and lead the company through scaling operations.
  • Financial Management: Ensure the company’s financial health by managing budgets, forecasts, investments, and capital raises. Make data-driven decisions to drive profitability and growth.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with employees, board members, investors, partners, and customers. Represent the company in all stakeholder communications, enhancing the company’s public image and stakeholder relations.
  • Culture and Team Leadership: Cultivate a dynamic, inclusive, and collaborative company culture. Attract, retain, and develop top talent, providing leadership and direction to ensure the team is motivated and aligned with the company’s goals.


Qualifications and Skills

  1. Proven experience as a CEO or in a senior managerial position within the technology sector, preferably with experience in platform development.
  2. Minimum 8 years of work experience across strategy consulting, policy or corporate leadership.
  3. Strong leadership skills, with a track record of leading companies through growth and change.
  4. Exceptional ability to think strategically and analytically, with a solid understanding of business functions such as marketing, sales, finance, and HR.
  5. Experience in fundraising and investor relations.
  6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building strong relationships with all stakeholders.
  7. Resilient and adaptable, with a proven ability to thrive in unstructured environments and resolve complex problems.
  8. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business Administration, or relevant field; MBA preferred.

During the incubation period, you will receive a competitive allowance to support your efforts in establishing GRE as a separate social enterprise and fundraising for its future course of action. Once the company is spun off, you will have the opportunity to shape your own compensation structure, aligning your interests with the long-term success of the organization.
