We are seeking a talented and experienced Qualitative Researcher with experience in rural fieldwork and strong communication skills to join our team. This is a contract position for the duration of 15 months with the possibility of extension based on project or organisational requirements.

Responsibilities

  1. Design and develop actionable knowledge guides (playbooks) for non-profits working in rural India to facilitate the dissemination of their work.
  2. Conduct qualitative research and user research to define problem statements and gather insights to inform playbook content.
  3. Conduct focus groups and key informant interviews to consolidate local knowledge, conduct research to verify/corroborate findings.
  4. Distill and synthesize insights to create actionable playbooks for practitioners.
  5. Conduct usability testing to gather feedback from target users and iterate on playbook designs accordingly.
  6. Structure playbook content in a coherent and accessible manner, ensuring it resonates with the target audience.
  7. Document the process of researching and creating playbooks to establish a workflow that allows for easy replicability for future stages.
  8. Engage with partners in a consultative manner to understand project requirements and their alignment with organisational objectives.
  9. Act as a liaison between our organisation and external partners, fostering strong relationships and ensuring effective communication.
  10. Travel to rural areas as needed to gather insights, conduct research, and engage with stakeholders.
  11. Solve problems in real-time and adapt to unstructured work environments with agility and creativity.

    Qualifications and Skills

    1. Bachelor’s degree in communications, social sciences, rural development, or a related field.
    2. Master’s degree in related fields (Social Sciences, Psychology, Human-centered design).
    3. Five to six years of professional experience in designing knowledge collateral for rural India, preferably in the non-profit sector.
      Proficiency in qualitative research methodologies and user research techniques.
    4. Proficiency in usability testing methodologies and experience in iterating on designs based on user feedback.
    5. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in dynamic and unstructured environments.
    6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to listen deeply and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
    7. Willingness to travel extensively to rural areas and engage with partners on the ground.
    8. Experience with knowledge dissemination platforms or similar digital tools is a plus.
    9. Fluency in Kannada or Marathi or Odiya is highly desirable
