Bengaluru’s Water Math is Badly Failing as ‘Zero Water Days’ Loom
This year’s summer is a trailer for a bigger water crisis in a city which once boasted of great weather and good life.
Now, authorities acknowledge they cannot bring more water to the city. Nearly half its population surviving without a reliable piped water system, chronic shortages, lack of water sources in the city, and unplanned construction concretising water bodies show the severe drawbacks of Bengaluru’s urbanisation model. Trying to fix the problem now is like catching a running train. Numbers indicate that, even with normal monsoons, the potable water supply may be negative in the future. Sustainable long-term measures call for building a new greenfield city.
