Lake rejuvenation is the process of improving the condition and functioning of a lake so that it can achieve target functions – flood mitigation, recharge, storage for indirect potable reuse, and ecological or social services – while being both scientifically feasible and aligned with community priorities.

This framework provides a structured, five-step approach to reviving urban and peri-urban, tropical shallow lakes, particularly freshwater lakes in peninsular India. The framework has been co-created through collaboration among research institutions, civil society organizations, government agencies, and citizen groups.

The Lake Rejuvenation Framework is a living document that will continue to evolve through contributions from partner organisations and field experts. The current Version 2.0 is an updated form of Version 1.0, which you can find here
